However, numerous myths surround creating a custom font that may hold you back from trying it out for yourself. Let's debunk some of the most common myths about custom font creation.

While I agree that some design skill is necessary, many tools and resources are available to make the process easier. Indeed, with the help of font editors and online tutorials, anyone can learn to create their own custom font. Here is the one I use—Robo Font, which has built-in solid Python support, and I love me anything Python!

You need expensive software to create a font 

Another common misconception is that you need expensive software to create a font. True, some font editors can be pricey—Glyphs and Robo Font come to mind, though they do have low student prices and generous free trial periods. However, many free or low-cost options are also available. For example, programs like FontForge and Glyphr Studio are free and can be used to create custom fonts.

Creating a custom font takes too much time

I often hear that creating a custom font takes time; another truth, but it doesn't have to be lengthy. Creating a basic font in just a few hours is possible with the right tools and resources. Of course, if you want to create a more complex font with varying styles and glyphs, it will take longer, but I guarantee the result will be worth the time and effort.

Custom fonts are only for professionals 

While it is true that businesses and graphic designers often use custom fonts, anyone can create their own. Whether you're making a font for personal use—like I did (see it below)—or to share with others or to sell, the process is accessible to everyone regardless of your design skills.
